This is long standing problem with Light-locker or graphical driver. The
cursor will disappear even if you lock and unlock screen.
Solution which works well for me is to replace light-locker by
xscreensaver:
sudo apt-get uninstall light-locker
sudo apt-get install xscreensaver
If the problem on resume persists, enable screen lock when system going
for sleep. (xubuntu 16.04)
