Public bug reported:

This is a decade old laptop and just before install saw a memtest error
... probably something in RAM. Good chances that the crash is because of
that. This bug is posted in the rare chance if its helpful to change
things such that minor RAM related errors can be worked around.. that'd
be awesome.
