I'm not sure what state pointer grabs/confinement is in but I know
bschaefer has been working on it.

Just on a related note -- GTK, X11, and probably any toolkit requires
pointer grab support without confining the cursor location. The use case
is to close a pop-up menu; the user clicks outside the menu and that
click event must still go to the menu surface (which holds a pointer
grab) (see bug 1506713).
