@cjwatson: Ah, ok. I may have misread the history here. I had gleaned that the xenial kernel (as a host) was more unstable - but for different reasons.
Regardless, I have pulled the wily backport build I prepared, because it was frequently triggering a WARN() condition. Looks like my backport attempt was too naive and would need some work.
