Oliver, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
1) What release did you upgrade from where this problem wasn't reproducible?
2) In the prior working release, were you using the nvidia proprietary drivers?
3) If you uninstall the nvidia proprietary drivers does this provide a
WORKAROUND?

** Description changed:
I'm working with an acer VN7-592G, with an Intel Core i7 Quad-Core-
Prozessor and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M. Since the upgrade to Ubuntu
16.04 I have problems with the HDMI connection.
If plugged in, the HDMI is recognised (xrandr), but the second monitor
shows "no signal". After restarting the lightdm service (sudo service
lightdm restart), the second monitor is working in most cases. Sometimes
ubuntu freezes after lightdm restart and a hard reset has to be
- performed. Another Problem is that if the display goes to sleep or is
- suspended the second monitor won't wake up anymore.
-
- (Futhermore there are some graphical issues, which might be associated
- with the proprietary driver of the Nvidia)
-
- Thank you very much for your help.
