Forgot to address the first question -- my access point at home is a Linux 2.4 PC with a Orinoco/WaveLAN 128-bit WEP card (802.11b).
Here is the common crash case that I was referring to earlier. The crash starts, apparently, with the failure with command #07. This often displays also on shutdown (and seems in some cases to halt shutdown). ** Attachment added: "Unrecoverable crash in syslog; I think the junk that follows it is an attempted recovery" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9886463/syslog-ipw3945otherhang.log -- ipw3945: Error sending LEDS_CMD.
