Public bug reported:

My current partition of Ubuntu was unaccessible after I switched from
nouvea to nvidia graphic driver. Ubuntu would not boot all the way as
the screen would lash during boot and the system would hang. I decided
to reinstall Ubuntu but I ran into errors installing a fresh ubuntu
system to replace the broken one of when installing it side by side the
old system. I have Mac OSX as my main system so I could not wipe the
drive.
