Yes, holding the shift key DOES cause [Ctrl-+] to work (to Zoom) in Geany. But WHY does Geany require this very inconsistent (and unknown to the casual user) addition of the Shift key, for [Ctrl-+], although [Ctrl--] and [Ctrl-0] perform as expected? Can you please refer me to an explanation of the basic need for this inconsistency in Geany?
