Public bug reported:

URGENT--Lubuntu 16.04 unable play CD/DVD. PCManFM seems to fail to
mount disks.

This is probably a PCManFM mounting issue.

... I have 2.27.1-6ubuntu3.1 and it DOES NOT solve the problem in
Lubuntu 16.04. It seems that the media fail to mount when inserted. They
do not show up in file manager (PCManFM). They used to in 14.04. The
folders /mnt and /media are empty.

Please, tell me what info you need. The sooner it is resolved, the
better.

This is the output I get from VLC:
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "/dev/sr0".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvd:///dev/sr0'. Check the log for details.

I have also tried the following commands in terminal without success:
vlc /dev/sr0
vlc /dev/cdrom
vlc cdda://
