Public bug reported:

I booted with the 7.10 beta live CD.

Just like all previous releases, it failed to properly detect that my
Acer 1916W widescreen monitor's proper resolution is 1440x900.

Instead it chose a regular (i.e. non-widescreen) resolution, which of
course makes the output looked unnaturally stretched across the screen.

I fired up the new tool for setting up the graphics
settings...unfortunately, 1440 x 900 was not listed as an option in
there!

So, from where I stand, 7.10 will still force me to hack xorg.conf by
hand in order to make Ubuntu work correctly at 1440x900.

In summary, the new resolution detection does not work correctly and the
new graphics config tool does not work correctly either, since it does
not show me the resolution that both my monitor and my graphics card
(NVidia) support.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
