This is still the case on 16.04.1. System is a Laptop with an older Core i5, 4 GB RAM. While transferring some 200MB files the system is completely unusable.
At this point it's a little embarrassing not to be able to transfer files to a USB drive without getting system freezes in 2016 on a fresh install.
