I agree that the disconnect while installing caused this. >From the log one can see that part of the install process is to start ntpd up. That then fails due to the loss of network connection. This bug is present in Debian too, and Ubuntu currently tries to minimize changes over the Debian package. So this bug would be best fixed directly in Debian, and then Ubuntu will pick up the fix automatically.
