I'm having the same problem. When trying to import an Access file, Kexi crashes at the "Save to file or to server" option using the GUI. I've included my backtrace as an attachment. I would try the above suggestion (compacting the database), except that I don't have Access, and can't get to the database using Kexi.
The database was sent to me by a client, and is proprietary, so I can't offer it here.
