I'm adding Jörg to this bug report. 1) (I did a debdiff) I'm not sure about changing ~200k lines of code to package a snapshot, that will mean refactoring the packaging, and a full copyright review. 2) can't upstream release a snapshot?
In any case, I would Jörg to answer on this, and in case sponsor a Debian upload (and provide a debdiff here). I don't want to diverge from Debian, specially because this bug seems to be not Ubuntu specific.
