this is a new machine. It has done so right from the start, and despite all my attempts I could never get it going.
Windows 10 anniversary edition had a similar problem when it got released but that got quickly fixed by a BIOS update. So I'm not sure if it's related at all. BTW, the only way to get the ubuntu installer to boot on that machine was to disable the nvidia GPU and only use the intel one.
