so be sure to only use the intel driver from the (x)ubuntu archive.
Purge xserver-xorg-video-intel (sudo apt-get purge ....)
then reinstall it.
Of course if some non trusted packages has also been installed, then goto
ubuntu archive.
If the problem still persist after the above tweaks done, then check
with a previous kernel. And the irq bios settings needs indeed to be
checked.
