Singtoh, I give many thanks for this fix. I have 4 cores (2 hyperthreads each, so '8 cores'), so the high single-thread usage didn't bother me too much... But the amount of time it took really frustrated me.
This goes from a 'leave Synaptic open for a while and do something else' sort of thing, to a 'wait a couple seconds more' sort of thing.
