Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

I'm not sure about your setup, it might be not by samba, but samba can use pam
auth.
And just on the upgrade trying to restart smaba there are a lot of these in the
log:
  sep 29 16:56:46 hostname lightdm[1585]: PAM unable to dlopen(pam_kwallet.so):
/lib/security/pam_kwallet.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory
  sep 29 16:56:46 hostname lightdm[1585]: PAM adding faulty module:
pam_kwallet.so

Then also it seems that you have no networking or name resolution, that as well
might affect you samba when restarting it:
  sep 29 16:56:44 hostname ntpdate[639]: Can't find host 0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org:
Name or service not known (-2)

And finally this is Wily which is out-of service in the meantime.
I'd highly encourage you to upgrade to a supported release and check if things
work there for you.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Incomplete
