I cannot reproduce this. I used the exact same environment as you
(20071010 amd64 RC iso, amd64, vmware) and the install went fine. Can
you reproduce this? If so, can you please look in Alt+F4 to see whether
there is a meaningful error message? You can also do "anna-install
openssh-client-udeb" on virtual terminal 2 to get scp and copy
/var/log/syslog to your host computer and then attach it to this bug.
