I have an X1 Carbon Gen1 with Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] (rev 96). 'sudo iw dev wlan0 scan' doesn't help. I usually have a blank wireless icon (no bars) with no networks listed, occasionally the up-down arrow wired connector icon. Need to go to System Settings > Network to see what I'm connected to.
