I would say:
Update to Ubuntu 16.04
Update to boinc 7.6.x
Update your CUDA driver.
On 14.04, the cuda detection was far from ideal, and the driver seems to be not
supporting it anyway, so I would wild guess that before blaming boinc, it needs
to be updated.
(BTW Ubuntu 16.04 has a nice boinc-client-nvidia-cuda package that installs the
driver for you)
