My config : CPU : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz graphic cards : 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Skylake Integrated Graphics (rev 06) 01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM107M [GeForce GTX 960M] (rev a2) I will a functional system with : ubuntu 16.04, kernel 4.7.7-040707-generic, linux-headers-4.7.7-040707-generic,linux-headers-4.7.7-040707, nvidia-370,nvidia-opencl-icd-370,nvidia-prime,nvidia-settings,bbswitch. Kernel from : http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/ Nvidia related from this ppa : deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu xenial main Kernel boot parameter for grub : "modprobe.blacklist=nouveau pci=noaer" (pci=noaer because I have this bug too => https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1521173 ) Without this boot parameter but with "acpi=off" I got a blackscreen, or I run into loop on login screen (I made several try, so I don't know exactly step by step all my modification before having a functionnal system).
