Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
I'm pretty sure an all numeric hostname is considered just invalid by most measures. For example, along the same lines as Breno points out, "getent hosts 1234" returns nonsensical results. So this is Won't Fix or Invalid by design across the Unix/Linux ecosystem I believe. RFC952/RFC1123 say that an all numeric hostname is invalid in DNS, so if you want the system to participate in DNS (ie. the Internet) then this does not make sense either. ** Changed in: rabbitmq-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1529033 Title: Install/start fails when hostname is numeric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rabbitmq-server/+bug/1529033/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
