Hi dBera,

Did you try "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" and choosing
appropriate monitor and video card? If not, try this.

As per my configuration, my card detected as i810 initially. Then I
changed this to intel. I don't have dell 1100. I have a desktop which
had the same issue.
