when it's "not working"   can you ping (icmp echo request) your router?
"ping 192.168.1.1"   (when using "paula" network)


if the answer is YES; you might want to try adding a "nameserver" to the 
/etc/resolv.conf DNS lookup file when you've problems.  eg. adding the line 
"nameserver 8.8.8.8" 

if this (dirty horrid work-around) works; you could could put in a file;
you run when you have problems (say in /usr/local/bin/, or better ~/bin
if you have one). this is NOT a fix; a thought about a dirty-work-around
after discussion ended on #ubuntu earlier.
