Public bug reported: When you run edid-decode with a binary edid file, it send binary garbage to the screen. The exact output varies (possibly an uninitialized buffer), and sometimes it only shows up after a few (3-5) runs.
Possible theory: when run on a hexdump input, it shows "Extracted contents". Maybe it's till showing binary data when there is a binary file. The source appears to come from: https://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app /edid-decode/ but I could not find a way to file a bug there. Binary data should not be sent to stdout for binary input files. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release: 16.04 apt-cache policy edid-decode edid-decode: Installed: 0.1~git20140128.afcf2a2e-1 Candidate: 0.1~git20140128.afcf2a2e-1 Version table: *** 0.1~git20140128.afcf2a2e-1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: edid-decode (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1636323 Title: edid-decode sends binary data to terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/edid-decode/+bug/1636323/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
