Hi to everyone, and sorry about my english. I have ubuntu 16.04 and evolution 3.18.5.2, and the preview pane in classic or vertical view, is really small, you can't even see the complete header with that size!!, and there's no option to resize any section of evolution. The fix that i found is go through dconf-editor in this path -> org -> gnome -> evolution -> mail .Here's all the options of the program so , as i wanted the vertical view, i change the hpaned-size parameter and hpaned-size-sub parameter to the value 750, with a resolution of 1920x768 and font size 15 to mails, its see pretty fine.
