what definitely works well for me is to configure a rpi3 with wired
only, finish the setup, ssh into teh board, run "sudo console-conf",
disable eth0, set up wlan0, finish console-conf, reboot and watch my
DHCP server (or the serial console of the Pi) to get the new IP ... this
is currently the only way to make wlan on the Pi work due to various
issues with the pi itself an console-conf/netplan.

so here i can definitely use it twice ...
