A very annoying problem, it happened to me many times per day, I guess
20 times per day is a minimum.

This is the workaround I used to apply: when mouse clicks stop working I
switch to the console (ctrl + alt + f1) and then switch back to the
graphical view (ctrl + alt + f7).

But I found a better workaround that works well for me so far. I noticed
there is no issue when touchpad of the laptop is turned off. So I just
configured the system to automatically turn off the touchpad when mouse
is plugged and turn it on when mouse is plugged out.

I run Arch Linux.
