Public bug reported:

While installing Ubuntu Gnome from a USB stick, there was a fatal error
of GRUB. My PC has 2 150GB hard drives, one has Win Vista on it, the
other was empty with one 150GB fat32 partition. I selected Erase Disk
and install, and checked logical volume management. Then I selected the
empty disk (sdb) and pressed install. I entered my language etc then
when the installer got to 'installing bootloader' it crashed. It said,'
'GRUB failed to install on sdb2'. or something like that. It asked me
if I wanted to install it on a different drive, I tried doing it in the
rootfs partition (sdb1,ext4) and the swap(sdb5)and neither worked. As
far as I could see, there was no 'sdb2' which may have been a faactor.
