Hi,

I have this same problem using Kubuntu since I switched from dapper to
feisty.

When I browse to the autofs folder any mountpoints that are not
available disappear. If I put media in a drive then cd to it in konsole
it reappears so autofs is still working except for the ghost feature.

I thought this was a kde problem since browsing to the autofs folder
using konsole or mc works fine but konqueror, dolphin, or any other kde
app causes any unavailable mountpoint to disappear from kde and also
from konsole and mc. If this is a problem with gnome too then it must
be a Ubuntu/Kubuntu problem.
