That sums it up. Bit of an odd one - I'm involved with testing for Xubuntu and I can't say I've heard of anyone else reporting similar issues either with Xubuntu or any of the other devel 'releases'
I did see it with yak - but didn't have the time to be doing multiple runs of this on hardware at the time. Nor have I had time to check other flavours nor Ubuntu - but can't see it being different at this stage of an installation.
