Exit code -11 (as per your original report) means a segmentation fault,
which in this context indicates a hardware fault. This may be a serious
hardware fault in the machine (as you suggest?), or it may just be
problems reading from the CD. My general advice in the latter case is to
try burning the CD at a lower speed (if applicable) and cleaning the CD
drive lens with the sort of cleaning kit you can get at electronics
shops; then perform a CD integrity check before starting the install
again.
