Hi Upgrading from Kubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 RC1 using the Adept instructions on kubuntu wiki gave the same problem for me.
Adept version upgrader hung at libslang install (I think this is more to do with it being the package to install after debconf?) I ended up having to kill all the adept and apt processes running, then completed upgrade of the system using $ sudo aptitude dist-upgrade about 3 times, which did the trick.
