Sorry for not responding in a more timely manner. I'm going to mark this
issue as invalid, since 6 years passed and no one else had the same
problem. This type of issue usually isn't a bug in the package but a
result from a failed unpack and can be resolved by apt -f install. But
after 6 years to find the real cause is pretty much impossible.
