Public bug reported:

If the plugin installation in GUI mode fails due to `error: Network
connection not detected.`, `hplip-3.16.11.run` simply continues the
installation, prints `Done.` and terminates the setup. The complete
setup has to be repeated and if the connection fails after the start of
the setup one can be occupied with trial-error installation for hours.

[Unit](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_testing) and
[integration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integration_testing) test
provide a very helpful way to detect trivial and obvious issues/errors
like this one before releasing software to end users. It's quite
unlikely to create average quality software without them and the use
case of this issue/error should be covered by both.
