Public bug reported:
Hello, I'm following the bug reporting documentation here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#In_case_Touchpad_features_like_scrolling.2C_tapping.2C_etc._do_not_work_at_all
As a summary, the ASUS touchpad is detected as a mouse without multi-
finger touchpad features such as scrolling and basic palm detection.
There is no Touchpad Tab in System > Administration > Mouse. Also,
tapping works, but the touchpad is too sensitive such that single taps
can result into double taps while right-clicks result to multiple
clicks. It's as if it really detects it as a mere mouse, but with
tapping. Synaptics properties cannot be detected as well in synclient.
The laptop is pretty new but generally popular, so do tag me if there
has been a duplicate request.
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release: 16.04
A quick look at the top of `xinput --list` shows just some pointer
mouse; no ELANTECH pointer or similar whatsoever.
$ xinput --list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ FTE1001:00 0B05:0101 id=13 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
...
Also, after looking at /proc/bus/input/devices, it seems that maybe
xserver or the kernel is not detecting the touchpad correctly. It just
detects it as FTE1001:00 0B05:0101 and not as a named touchpad.
I'm attaching the requirements asked for the docs. Attaching a tar.gz
file because for some reason, I can only upload one attachment in
launchpad in the browser.
