Public bug reported:
xubuntu-exp
Affects: xubuntu 16.04
light-locker causes problems with multiple applications (all Firefox
related that I've found so far):
- If the flash player is running when you lock the screen, it will crash
when you unlock it (best case scenario)
- Sometimes instead of flash player crashing, Firefox becomes completely
unresponsive and needs to be force stopped (worst case scenario)
- When running, light-locker blocks Chatzilla from responding to ping
requests. As a result, IRC network connections always time out if the
screen is locked for any length of time.
Steps to reproduce flash crash (always reproducible):
1. Login to Amazon account with prime service. Play something using the Prime
Music web player.
2. Lock the screen. The music will stop playing as expected.
3. Unlock the screen. The flash player will crash (best case scenario), or
Firefox will become unresponsive and need a force quit (worst case scenario).
Steps to reproduce the Chatzilla timeout.
1. Start Chatzilla and join an IRC channel.
2. Lock the screen.
3. Some time later, unlock the screen. The connection will have been terminated
due to a ping timeout.
Workaround for both problems:
Revert to xscreensaver (uninstall light-locker, install xscreensaver).
None of the above issues affect xscreensaver.
Personally, I think xubuntu should revert to xscreensaver as the default
until the bugs with light-locker can be resolved. xscreensaver might
look dated, but it's reliable, gets the job done, and doesn't crash
other applications.
