Note that bug 49579 means time-based locking is inherently trouble. If you accidentally leave a menu item selected or a virtual machine window open (using a client that captures the keyboard or mouse) then the time- lock won't happen anyway, regardless of whatever bug this is.
We're working on the Mir display server to address this issue. Others are working on the Wayland display server. Hopefully we'll have a solution to this decades-old problem eventually.
