This is probably caused by too many sources (in /etc/apt/sources.list).

Try adding the following into /etc/apt/apt.conf, which increases the size of 
the MMap (to 64MB):
APT::Cache-Limit "64000000";

update-manager should probably adjust this manually, to prevent this from 
happening?
It seems that the error is caused by adding additional sources during the 
upgrade process.
