Public bug reported:

Booting from the 7.10rc install disk yielded a flickering corrupted
screen, not even the ghost of any desktop was visible. Booting in safe
graphics mode works fine. Then when attempting to change the display
driver to GeForce 6600 from within safe graphics mode, the same
flickering corrupted screen was produced. After a few seconds Ubuntu
recovers the safe driver, presumably through lack of user input. I'm new
to Ubuntu and linux so I'm unaware of the pertinent information I should
provide, please respond with information gathering instructions if
needed.

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
