Since this problem still persists, gutsy rc is released with it and
nobody card to answer yet I set this to confirmed.
mplayer -vo xv /usr/share/apps/k3b/extra/k3bphotovcd.mpg
shows the problem
mplayer -vo x11 /usr/share/apps/k3b/extra/k3bphotovcd.mpg
works ok
