Ubuntu 16.10 received this changes via stable updates from upstream. This commit came in with the 4.8.4 upstream stable updates(Commit 3d549dc in 4.8.4). Can you test the upstream 4.8.4 upstream stable kernel and see if it also exhibits this bug?
