Christian: in order to provide some more information, I can tell you that gdesklets was working very well till more or less a week ago when it started to fail. In order to start from scratch I uninstalled/installed gdesklets and deleted my .gdesklets directory.
Here's the output: $ gdesklets Starting gdesklets-daemon... Cannot establish connection to daemon: timeout! The log file might help you solving the problem. My system is an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ running Gutsy (updated).
