Please look at: http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi- bin/search_contents.pl?searchmode=filelist&word=tzdata&version=gutsy&arch=all&page=1&number=all I just verified that the tzfiles of /usr/share/zoneinfo and that of /usr/share/zoneinfo/posix are the same. The /usr/share/zoneinfo/right folder includes leap seconds, so it makes sense to put it in a separate folder, but why replicate the content of the zoneinfo folder inside zoneinfo/posix?
