Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Whenever I log in, the gnome panels come up normally, but instead of the
desktop I see a black screen. Additionally, I cannot open any file
browsers. All other applications work fine. This is occurring on gutsy.

I also have a file now in my home directory called "nautilus-debug-
log.txt" that is increasing in size at a very fast rate. It starts off
like this:

===== BEGIN MILESTONES =====
0x8177880 2007/10/14 03:45:15.4372 (GLog): "nautilus-metafile.c: metafiles"
hash table still has 17 elements at quit time (keys above)
0x8177880 2007/10/14 03:45:15.4373 (GLog): "nautilus-directory.c: directories"
hash table still has 4 elements at quit time (keys above)
0x8177880 2007/10/14 03:45:15.4391 (GLog):
nautilus_bookmarks_window_save_geometry: assertion `NAUTILUS_IS_BOOKMARK_LIST
(bookmarks)' failed
0x8177880 2007/10/14 03:45:15.4441 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11
0x8177880 2007/10/14 03:45:15.4448 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11
0x8177880 2007/10/14 03:45:15.4452 (USER): debug log dumped due to signal 11

And then I have hundreds of identical lines, all saying the thing about
signal 11. To me, based only on the fact that I see "... hash table ...
quit time ...", I'm thinking maybe something it writes to disk when it
exits became corrupted and now it's getting confused when it reads it
again on boot up.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New

nautilus can get stuck into a state where it will get stuck in a loop
continually crashing whenever it starts up
