Public bug reported:
I have an AMD Semperon PC with a Belkin F5D7000 PCI Wireless card and a
Linksys router. Encryption is disabled but access is restricted to
selected MAC addresses. The WiFi connection seemed to be working OK
with 6.06 without any special configuration - everything just worked.
I attempted a clean install of release candidate 7.10. Everything
seemed OK but start-up showed a modprobe error inserting
...mac80211/lwlwifi_rc80211_simple.ko, unknown symbol in module of
unknown parameter.
The network icon in the top right showed the connection had failed. The
drop-down showed that my SSID had been detected but attempting to
connect manually failed - it seemed to wait forever.
The Gnome Network settings application showed the wireless card in
roaming mode. Attempting to set the SSID from there killed my machine -
the screen went blank and it wouldn't even respond to the on/off switch.
The only way I could get it back was by turning off at the wall.
