Public bug reported:

My machine, running an AMD A8, will not boot with either Linux
4.8.0-34 nor Linux 4.8.0-32. It will boot Linux 4.4.0-30-generic.

When I try to boot either 4.8.0-34 or 4.8.0-32, this machine returns
to the BIOS screen. It does not get to a graphics log-on screen.

Is this a known issue?

I notice that on this machine, the packages
xserver-xorg-video-radeon and xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu are
installed. Should I try to switch from one to the other? If so, how do I
do that?

I suspect that this is a graphics drivers issue, because I had that
problem with this machine several years ago. It was eventually
fixed, but in the meantime I had used the fglrx drivers.

Here is the version of Linux that I can boot successfully:

    $ lsb_release -rd
    Description:    Ubuntu 16.10
    Release:        16.10
    $ uname -r
    4.4.0-30-generic

Here is info about my graphics driver:

    $ lspci | grep -E 'VGA|Display'
    00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Richland [Radeon HD 8570D]

Here is some CPU info from /proc/cpuinfo:

Is there any other information that I can provide?

Dave
