My machine is slowed down massively by hard disk reads/writes. On
another machine I have been able to remedy this problem somewhat by
running a script calling hdparm at boot, but on my machine all the disks
are reported as scsi disks, which means I need to use sdparm.
Unfortunately the sdparm manual is way too complicated for most mortals
to understand.
Obviously an hdparm gui would be a step forward. However it is still
quite unreasonable to expect non-techie users even to know that their
disk access is probably way slower than it ought to be. In other words
disk access needs to be tuned during system installation.
