I have the same issue on a Lenovo Thinkpad 13: After the screen turns off, i'm unable to resume it (ctrl-alt-f1/f7 do nothing).
However: if i close the lid (thus putting the laptop into sleep mode) and reopen it, i'm able to resume my session.
